The Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) has announced that its GavaConnect Enterprise API platform has registered over 1000 developers marking a significant milestone in its ongoing digital transformation and tax modernisation programme.
Launched to facilitate seamless integration between government tax services and private sector systems, GavaConnect currently offers 16 APIs covering functions such as PIN verification Tax Compliance Certificate validation NIL Return filing and eSlip checks. The platform is the first of its kind in Kenya’s public sector enabling businesses fintechs and software developers to embed compliance tools directly into their applications.
Speaking during the second edition of KRA’s API Masterclass Deputy Commissioner for Program Delivery & Client Engagement Annastacia Githuba said the initiative places developers and innovators at the centre of improving taxpayer experiences.
“We are opening government systems to the wider tech ecosystem enabling private sector players to innovate around tax services. This is not only about compliance. It is about creating new business opportunities while enhancing service delivery” she said.
The Masterclass featured technical demonstrations onboarding guidance and interactive feedback sessions with developers proposing additional API functionalities. KRA confirmed plans to integrate the electronic Tax Invoice Management System (eTIMS) and enhanced VAT compliance APIs into GavaConnect to support real time reporting and automated compliance for enterprises.
KRA Deputy Commissioner for Citizen Relations & Communication Grace Wandera said the expansion underscores the authority’s commitment to building “open secure and developer friendly” tax systems that reduce friction for businesses and support Kenya’s wider digital economy goals.
