KenGen and Nation Media Group Partner to Advance Clean Energy Adoption and Tackle Climate Change

KenGen and Nation Media Group  have partnered to accelerate the uptake of clean energy solutions and raise awareness on climate change across Kenya and the region.

The collaboration will leverage KenGen’s leadership in renewable power generation and NMG’s extensive media reach to educate the public, influence policy, and promote sustainable energy practices among households, businesses, and communities. Through joint campaigns, educational content, and special events, the two organizations seek to empower Kenyans to make informed choices about energy use while encouraging investments in green technologies.

KenGen CEO Peter Njenga emphasized the importance of public-private collaboration in combating climate change, stating, “Our partnership with Nation Media Group enables us to amplify the message on the significance of clean energy and the urgent need to transition from fossil fuels to sustainable alternatives. Together, we can inspire change and contribute to Kenya’s and Africa’s climate goals.”

NMG CEO Stephen Gitagama highlighted the media house’s commitment to environmental advocacy: “As a leading source of news and public dialogue, NMG is dedicated to championing climate action. By joining forces with KenGen, we aim to deliver impactful stories, expert insights, and real-life examples that will encourage adoption of renewable solutions and help mitigate the effects of climate change.”

The partnership comes as Kenya intensifies its efforts to meet its renewable energy targets and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, in line with national and international commitments such as the Paris Agreement. KenGen, which generates over 80% of its electricity from renewable sources such as geothermal, hydro, and wind, is at the forefront of the country’s green energy push.

Through this alliance, KenGen and NMG will also support community-based projects, host forums on sustainable practices, and provide platforms for innovation in the clean energy sector.

The initiative is expected to play a vital role in Kenya’s transition to a low-carbon economy and inspire similar partnerships across Africa.
