Liquid and DropByDrop Join Forces to Tackle Kenya’s Water Loss Crisis with Smart Tech

Liquid Intelligent Technologies has partnered with DropByDrop Water Systems to revolutionize water distribution in Kenya through advanced smart water solutions aimed at curbing non-revenue water losses.

According to national data, nearly 47% of water released into Kenya’s distribution networks goes unaccounted for, either lost through leaks, theft, or poor metering. The new partnership between Liquid and DropByDrop seeks to address this issue by deploying technologies that enhance leak detection, improve metering accuracy, and enable real-time monitoring.

In a joint statement, the two firms emphasized that reducing non-revenue water not only improves revenue collection for water utilities but also opens up greater investment opportunities for water infrastructure development.

“This collaboration integrates Liquid’s expansive network and digital expertise with DropByDrop’s cloud-based water management platform to deliver a comprehensive smart water ecosystem,” the statement read.

The solution combines Liquid’s Internet of Things (IoT) capabilities with DropByDrop’s analytics tools to ensure efficient and reliable water distribution. Key features include SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) systems for remote monitoring, geo-asset management to maintain infrastructure, and remote valve control for instant operational adjustments. The platform also supports multilingual use and is compatible with diverse networks, ensuring broader accessibility for billing, usage tracking, and leak alerts.

Beyond operations, the data collected supports ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) reporting and contributes to progress on the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals, particularly in water sustainability and urban planning.

Neeraj Pradhan, Acting CEO of Liquid Kenya, noted the urgency of managing water resources across the continent. “Water scarcity is an escalating concern. Our partnership with DropByDrop allows us to bring cutting-edge technology and data-driven insights to Kenya’s water sector. By digitizing infrastructure, we’re helping utilities serve communities more effectively,” he said.

Khorolsky, International Projects Partner at DropByDrop, echoed the sentiment: “Water is life, yet millions face daily struggles to access it. Our mission is to use data and technology to ensure every drop counts. Partnering with Liquid enables us to scale our impact in Kenya and promote sustainable, equitable water management.”

With this collaboration, Kenya takes a significant step forward in modernizing its water sector offering a model that could be replicated across Africa in the fight against water loss.
