Little Launches Affordable Medical Cover for Drivers at Sh83 a Day

Ride-hailing company Little, in partnership with Maisha Poa and underwriter BirdView Insurance have launched a new, budget-friendly medical insurance plan for its drivers.

The initiative, named Mfanisi Go, aims to bridge the health insurance gap among Kenya’s digital taxi drivers, a segment often excluded from traditional health coverage.

Mfanisi Go offers daily health cover starting at just Sh82 per day or Sh493 per week, making it accessible to more than 150,000 drivers on the Little platform.

The company announced that drivers can pay their premiums in flexible installments spread over eight months, reducing the pressure of a one-time annual payment. The plan also covers up to five dependents per driver, extending benefits to their families.

The new plan provides cashless access to healthcare at over 100 hospitals and clinics in major towns across Kenya. Drivers enrolled in the plan can seek treatment without the need for upfront payments or complex paperwork.

In addition, the Little app handles registration and premium payments, with deductions seamlessly made from drivers’ trip earnings, making the process simple and integrated with their daily work.

One of the standout features of Mfanisi Go is the inclusion of free virtual consultations through the platform’s telemedicine service, giving drivers convenient access to medical advice without having to visit a clinic in person.

The launch of Mfanisi Go comes at a time when less than 10 percent of Kenyans, particularly those in the informal and gig economy, have any form of health insurance.

By providing an affordable, accessible, and tech-enabled insurance solution, Little and its partners aim to improve health outcomes, reduce out-of-pocket medical expenses, and promote financial security for Kenya’s rapidly growing gig workforce.

Company executives say the new product aligns with national efforts to achieve universal health coverage, and they plan to expand benefits and partnerships to reach even more workers in Kenya’s digital economy in the future.
