President William Ruto on Thursday held bilateral talks with His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales in London to strengthen Kenya–UK relations.
The high-level meeting highlighted the two nations’ shared commitment to advancing mutual prosperity, deepening cooperation, and addressing pressing regional and global challenges such as climate change, peace building, and sustainable development.
The meeting, held in London during President Ruto’s working visit to the United Kingdom, focused on enhancing bilateral cooperation in areas such as climate action, youth empowerment, economic development, and peace building efforts in the Horn of Africa.
During the talks, President Ruto reaffirmed Kenya’s dedication to strengthening its historical ties with the UK, noting that the two nations continue to collaborate on key development priorities that support both national and global agendas.
“Our engagement today is anchored in our shared commitment to mutual progress and prosperity for our two countries. We are united by common values and a desire to tackle the pressing challenges of our time, from climate change and economic inequality to regional peace and global sustainability,” President Ruto stated.
The leaders discussed avenues to expand cooperation in green investment, education, innovation, and infrastructure development, with particular emphasis on building resilience in the face of environmental and economic pressures.
President Ruto expressed appreciation for the UK’s continued support for Kenya’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA), and welcomed new UK-led partnerships in areas such as renewable energy and job creation for the youth.
His Royal Highness the Prince of Wales, a long-time advocate for environmental sustainability and youth leadership, echoed the need for deepened engagement between the two countries, particularly through initiatives that uplift communities, protect ecosystems, and deliver meaningful outcomes for future generations.
The meeting also touched on matters of regional security, with both leaders agreeing on the need for strengthened collaboration in promoting peace and stability across East Africa, especially in conflict-affected areas such as Sudan, Somalia, and the DRC.
“We are committed to deepening this cooperation for the shared prosperity of our people, building a sustainable future, and delivering tangible benefits for both our nations and the planet,” President Ruto added.
The engagement forms part of Kenya’s broader diplomatic efforts to reposition itself as a key strategic partner on the global stage, leveraging its leadership in environmental diplomacy, innovation, and regional stability.
President Ruto is expected to hold additional meetings with UK government officials, business leaders, and development partners during his official tour.
